The Bible tells us that all these are involved in the suffering and death of Jesus - that is, His
Passion
Jesus the Son of God said :
"Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."
An astounding claim!
If you believe Jesus, this statement means that it is of very little importance who executed Him. What we need to know is why His Father gave Him that command…why He laid down His life by allowing wicked men to kill him.
When Jesus was executed, He was laying down His life as a sacrifice for sin. The punishment due to men and women who have ignored, despised, disobeyed, and hated their great Creator was taken by Jesus, the innocent One.
The driving passion of Jesus Christ was to save people like that…people like us. For the Bible says "all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God".
Jesus' great interest was the welfare of the lost. Jesus' ardent desire was to save them.
His amazing, unfathomable love is what led Jesus to embrace horrible suffering and death
Jesus defeated death!
When Jesus rose from the dead, it proved that the payment He made for the crimes of others was abundantly acceptable. Now, God gives pardon and eternal life FREELY to those who believe on (that is, fully trust) Jesus.
What is your passion? What drives you? Nothing should consume you more than making sure you have come into a right relationship with God. As sons and daughters of Adam, we are all fallen: rebels against God. We are alienated from Him and under His just wrath. And Jesus, the same Jesus Who died so horribly, said
"I am the way, the truth, and the life - no one comes to the Father, except by Me."
Do you feel in your heart that the time is now to go beyond knowing just a little bit here and there ABOUT Him? Do you desire to be more than a spectator when it comes to this wonderful Person? Jesus offers much more!
A member of one of the congregations of Christ…one small, local expression of that global, timeless people of God…probably gave you this pamphlet. We hope you will seek out that congregation or one like it, to further discuss these matters of eternal significance.
